Michael illustrated a serialization of GK, which ran in Pearson's Magazine (C. Arthur Pearson Ltd., London) from October 1907 to June 1908. Cassell and Co., London, published the first edition on 25 September 1908. Eight illustrations by Michael accompanied this edition. Frank Lovell, New York, published the first US edition on 15 May 1909 using an alternate title: The Lady of the Heavens.
