The rightful Queen of Egypt, Neter-Tua, or Morning Star, must defeat her uncle Prince Abi who plots to usurp her throne. Haggard dedicated <span style="font-style:italic;">MS</span> to his friend Sir Ernest Alfred Thompson Wallis Budge (1857-1934), an English Egyptologist and Orientalist whose responsibilities included the collection of Egyptian and Assyrian artifacts for the British Museum. <span style="font-style:italic;">MS</span> was serialized in <span style="font-style:italic;">The Christian World News of the Week</span> between October 1909 and March 1910. Cassell and Co., London, published the first UK edition on 11 March 1910 which included three full-page illustrations by <a href="http://www.visualhaggard.org/illustrators/6">A. C. Michael</a>. <span style="font-style:italic;">The Register</span> in Adelaide complimented these, remarking: "The illustrations, by A. C. Michael, are good" (4). Cassell issued 13,500 copies in this printing.
