Samuel John Carter (1835-1892) was a draughtsman, painter, and illustrator. Carter was born in 1835 in Swaffham, Norfolk. He studied art in Norwich. Carter exhibited at the Royal Institute, the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Grosvenor Gallery. He specialized in animal drawings. Carter created illustrations for the periodical press including The Illustrated London News and The Graphic.
