However, I include it in VH because it serves as a significant part of this novel's visual history. Short poems, decorative graphic embellishments, and stand-alone images like Cull's all accompanied serialized texts in order to fill otherwise blank space on the page. The role of paratexts like these remains uncertain for digital image archives.
