And we went forth.
And thus I for the first time saw Cleopatra face to face.
As she spoke, the man with a great cry, gave up the spirit.
Twice he leapt thus, horrible to see
She held it to the light and gave a little cry
'I've won,' she cried
Before me was Cleopatra, but oh! how changed
And thus I left her.
I seized him with my will and stare and drew him after me.

And while I spoke, watching the stars, she sat and watched my face.
I crown thee Pharaoh
Oh those nights upon the Nile!
Still she sits like yonder Sphinx, and smiles
An omen, royal Harmachis.
He fixed his gaze on Cleopatra... as a man who is amazed
