Lancelot Speed

Lancelot Speed (1860–1931) was a British illustrator, painter, cartoonist, and film director. Speed was born on 13 June 1860. He attended Rugby School and later Clare College, Cambridge. Speed contributed to a variety of periodicals including Punch, The Illustrated London News, Sporting & Dramatic News, The English Illustrated Magazine, Good Words, The Sphere, The Windsor Magazine, and The Graphic. In addition to illustrating Haggard’s She, Speed also designed the set for the 1916 silent film version of She directed by Will Barker (England: Barker Motion Photography). Speed lived in Barnet and Southend-on-Sea. He died on 31 December 1931.
